TUESDAY, DEC 04, 2018

Social Explorer now has the latest maps for congressional, gubernatorial and senatorial election results. Start exploring the results in our Election Maps collection. All of our election data come from Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections

Just last week as more votes were tallied and his lead increased, Democrat TJ Cox declared victory over Republican incumbent Rep. David Valadao in California's 21st congressional district. With this final congressional race decided, Democrats gained 40 seats nationwide–a dramatic increase that has been dubbed the "Blue Wave." Seven of those seats were in California. The following Social Explorer maps from 2016 and 2018 illustrate this shift in party power, especially noticeable in Southern California's Orange County.

Zoom in to explore the congressional districts in more detail. (Please note that election data for a few states such as Wisconsin, Montana and Maine are not yet visible. We will update the maps with these results as soon as the data are available.)
