With the recent news that the U.S Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade, essentially stripping the rights of women to freely choose to terminate a pregnancy, protests, and outrage has sparked across the country. 

It brings up the question when restrictions are placed, does it only cause people to repel and move in the opposite direction? 

When we look at abortion, it seems as though that is the case. As more states have placed strict laws restricting abortion rights, support for the cause has risen. Seemingly to the highest it has ever been. 

Andrew Beveridge, a co-founder of Social Explorer, looks at the historical patterns of abortion rights in the U.S. and agrees that this is exactly what is currently happening across the country. 

“When the ability to have an abortion was under threat, support for it went up,” Beveridge told the New York Times. “When it was not under threat, support declined.”
