Housing Units Less Than $100,000 Across the U.S.

TUESDAY, FEB 23, 2021

The days of the modest, five-figure starter home aren’t over just yet – but they’re getting harder to find. Fewer than 1 in 5 U.S. homes are worth less than $100,000, according to a Social Explorer analysis of newly released 2015-19 American Community Survey data.

Seven of the 10 places where five-figure homes are most common are at the edge of the South Plains in Texas, including King County (96.2 percent), Stonewall County (90.2 percent), and Hardeman County (86.6 percent). Find the counties with the highest percentage of homes valued at less than $100,000 with Social Explorer’s award-winning, customizable mapping tools.
